Faith Fridays - No Regrets This Ramadan by Imam Khalid Latif [VIDEO]

Every Friday we hope to bring you a khutbah or short lecture in English that we feel may be of benefit to you. Think of it as a weekly khutbah from a different perspective. All you need to do is spend 30 minutes (or less) a week to learn something new.

If you have any suggestions on a video that we should share please send us an email via "Write for Us".

Ramadhan is upon us alhamdulillah. How many of us have stopped to make du'a to Allah that we see this year's Ramadhan, or that the people we love see Ramadhan this year? How many people that we know have passed away in the weeks leading up to Ramadhan. Imagine getting to this point only for Allah to take you back to Him.

We all know Ramadhan is a great month and a wonderful blessing, and we know we should reap it's benefits again and again and again.

Thus this week we bring you Imam Khalid Latif's khutbah. As mentioned in last week's Faith Fridays Imam Khalid Latif is the Imam of New York University and of the New York Police Department (that's right, the NYPD!). He recently wrote an article for CNN regarding the terrorist attacks in Norway and how terrorism isn't a Muslim phenomena.

Ramadhan: Life in the Fast Lane [VIDEO]

For those of you who missed our event at UIA here are the recordings.

First Muhammad Cheppih asks some reflective questions about why we fast, and our behaviour and practices during Ramadhan.

Then Tawfique Chowdhury went through the fiqh of fasting, which is important for every Muslim to know so we can educate others and most important educate our children (or future children).

Finally it ended with a very informative question and answer session.

Of World Cup, Shaaban and Ramadhan

This piece was written by YMP President Khairul last year after he experienced the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Unfortunately time did not permit us to post this up much earlier (we only have a week left before Ramadhan) but there are still many lessons to be learned from it.

Assalamualaikum,

How's everyone? I pray Allah's guidance is upon all of us and He blesses us with all that is good.

What did you guys think of the World Cup? I'm sure it left as quickly as it arrived. Conveniently I was supporting Spain =D

As some of you know, alhamdulilah I managed to experience the World Cup fever in South Africa and it was definitely an experience to remember. It's obvious that there's many aspects of it that, as Muslims, we don't agree on. Be it the wastage of money, alcohol consumption, heedlessness or the amount of time it distracts us from our responsibilities.

But back to our daily lives, I believe as Muslims we are obliged to take lessons and learn from it. To use the teachings of Islam to study history with wisdom. Then use history as a yardstick to measure our progress, rather then be stuck in the glory or failing of the past.

Because You're Worth It - The Real Issues: with Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim

***Please note this is a LADIES ONLY event.***

If you ask the question "What is a woman's purpose in life?" what do you think the answer would be? A mother? A wife? A housewife? Wrong! A woman's purpose in life, is just like a man's purpose in life - that is to worship Allah.

Our times are difficult and being a girl is hard. We are expected to manage the home, take care of the kids and work to help contribute to the family's finances. How do we juggle our roles and be true to our faith? While the answer is by no means easy it does start with a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of women in Islam, because that sets the standard by which everything we do can be compared to.

In this special ladies only event Sheikh Yahya will remind ourselves that women have a great role to play in society and will answer YOUR questions about the issues you face as a Muslim woman. Don't miss this opportunity to discuss what matters most to women.

Sheikh Yahya training in classical Islamic knowledge started while he was in his teens. He grew up translating into English the speeches of various Arabic-speaking Islamic scholars who were visiting his native Canada. At the age of 17 he was already lecturing at mosques in Toronto. He has traveled extensively to meet and study with scholars of classical Islamic knowledge, and has spoken extensively on women in Islam. Now Sheikh Yahya lives in Perth, with his wife and two children.

Salam everyone!!

As Muslims we know that Islam is a way life. It's principles and teachings permeate our thoughts and actions. But in the ever changing world as we come face to face with new challenges and new frontiers, we are forced to stop ourselves and question just how we as Muslims should react to what is in front of us.

We must remember that Prophet Muhammad (saw) is our best example and his life is bursting with lessons that we can apply across time and context.

Join us as we attempt to unravel the treasures and gems of RasulAllah's sunnah in a hadith seminar entitled The Muslim Personality. Under the tutelage of Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim we hope to leave with some practical examples on how we should live our lives in relation to Allah, ourselves and others.

For those 12-18 years of age.

We are well and truly on our journey to the most wonderful time of the year and Young Muslims Project brings you an event especially for teenagers.

As children we are taught the importance of Ramadhan, how we are commanded to fast, how the Qur'an was sent down. But it is sometimes difficult to transcend our obligations to turn them into acts of sincere and devoted worship.

Together with Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim let your kids (or younger brothers and sisters) delve deeper into the meaning of Ramadhan, learn how to enjoy this blessed month and manage it as they continue with their daily lives. All so that as the days count down to 1st Ramadhan we will be rushing to get to the mosque for teraweeh, getting up early for suhoor and trying our very best to reap all the Blessings and Mercy that Allah has promised us.

Sheikh Yahya training in classical Islamic knowledge started while he was in his teens. At the age of 17 he was already lecturing at mosques in his native Canada. Now Sheikh Yahya lives in Perth, with his wife and two children, where he is the Islamic Chaplain at Curtin University of Technology and the director of a Perth-wide halal food network.
