Creativity and Islam with Ustadh Riaz Ansary




Are we allowed to use our own mind in Islam, to interpret and practice the religion? How flexible or rigid is Islam? Are we taught to only follow orders? Is asking too many questions discouraged in Islam?

All of these, and more, questions will be answered in this free and open discussion about Islam with Ustadh Riaz Ansary from the US. ALL are invited!

Ustadh Riaz Ansary is an Associate Researcher at the International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) and is also currently pursuing his PhD at ISTAC. Came to Islam at the age of 22, he had since traveled the world giving lectures and translating various into English.

A Day in the Life of the Prophet (PBUH)




Join YMP together with Sheikh Tariq Appleby in a night of knowledge and reflection as we remind ourselves of the example of the best of mankind.

Sheikh Tariq Appleby was born and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa with a family background that is of a mix of Indian and English. After completing high school, Tariq went to the Islamic University of Madinah to pursue Islamic studies. He completed his Diploma in Arabic and then in 2007 graduated with a B.A. in Hadith studies.

He has taught in a number of Islamic centres in Cape Town, and is currently working as a teacher in the Discover Islam centre (DIC) with Dr Abdullah Hakim Quick. He also teaches with Al-Hijra foundation which offers short courses and youth programmes in Cape Town. More abouth the sheikh

YMP & IAMM Presents: Museum Hunt!



Salam (Peace) Everyone!!!

There comes a time when we all need to stretch those legs out and get energized, BUT why not learn something valuable at the same time! How, you may ask? Why, through a good ol' treasure hunt fun, of course!! And what better place to hold such an activity then in the
Islamic Arts Museum!

Come join us in our Museum Hunt and learn about the artifacts featured in their twelve permanent
galleries. Learn the history, the characters, the art behind the exhibits, and most of all, HAVE FUN!!!

And NO, you DON'T need to be a historian of any sort to join. Just regular Joe's and plain Jane's will do. As long as you're keen on having fun, work those leg muscles, blitz those brain cells, and meet new people, then sign on up!

10am Arrival / gather at Briefing area for briefing
10.15am – 11.30am Museum Hunt
11.40am Gather at Education Workshop
11.45am Announcement of winners & prize giving
12 noon End

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. This is a pre-registered event so PLEASE RSVP to sis. Zarina so that we can put your name in the list and make the necessary preparations!
2. The participation fee is
RM22. This was set by the museum.
3. You can either register individually or as a team BUT please give us your names, contact numbers and email addresses both for you and your team members (if possible).

My Time in Palestine: A Talk by Khalil Chris Chaney




Salam (Peace) Everyone!!

YMP has a very special evening in store for you on the 11th with a very special individual indeed, brother Khalil Chris Chaney!

Brother Khalil is an American-born convert to Islam who stayed in Palestine for the past 3 years. Initially going there to do a thesis for his Masters, he then completely fell in love with the people and the place that is Palestine. He has made several mini-documentaries on what the people in Palestine go through in their daily lives; the struggles, the conflicts, the everyday life. He has been working with the youth in hostile and conflict-filled environment for the past 25 years of his life before he went to Palestine and worked with the youth there. He is now married to a Malaysian lady and plans to settle down here. He has been offered a job in the education line, helping Malaysian teachers teach English.

Relive his experiences and observations of a refugee camp in West Bank through two short films that he made, and learn what ultimately led him to Palestine.

Calligraphy Workshop with IAMM

Ever wanted to learn a thing or two about Islamic calligraphy? Ever wondered how beautiful pieces that we see around are made? Well here's your chance!

Learn the basics of Islamic calligraphy with an ustadh in just a few hours and have fun at the same time! And who knows, if you produce something good enough, they might hang it up in the museum!

The day will start with a free guided tour of the museum and its exhibits. Then off to the workshop, and finally we end with lunch & prayers. Itinerary:
